The Tartan Backers Association is Galloway’s athletics booster and volunteer service organization that is organized separately from the Parents Association. Its goal is to support Galloway’s Athletic Department, its sports teams and all student-athletes. Tartan Backers work to build community among athletes and fans by coordinating special events like the sports banquets, senior nights, cookouts and pre-game celebrations, in addition to operating the concession stands, selling Gallowear spirit merchandise, and serving as team parents and coaches. Any excess funds raised by Tartan Backers are used to support the needs of Galloway athletics.
Tartan Backers’ Mission Statement
The purpose of the Tartan Backers Association shall be to promote the philosophy and goals of The Galloway School’s Athletics Program and to contribute to the advancement and needs of all Galloway athletes through parent and community involvement.
All parents or guardians of a student athlete attending The Galloway School are members of the Tartan Backers Association. The executive committee and standing committee heads meet on a monthly basis and meetings are open to parents of all learning levels.

There are unique opportunities for parent volunteers to play a vital role in the success of Galloway athletes and teams. The Tartan Backers President drives the activities of the Tartan Backers Association and oversees all meetings and committees planning for special events, fundraisers and purchases. The president sets the TB calendar for the upcoming year and promotes the goals of TBs in accordance with the organizational bi-laws. The president serves as liaison between the parent booster club and Galloway’s athletic department, and represents the Tartan Backers Association at school events as needed.
The Tartan Backers Vice Chairperson serves as the assistant to the Tartan Backers president and trains to take over the position the following year. The Vice Chair serves on other standing committees as requested. He or she assists in all activities of the Association and performs the duty of the chair in his or her absence.
The Tartan Backers Treasurer manages the fiscal matters of the Association and serves as a liaison to financial institutions and The Galloway School’s business office.
The Tartan Backers Secretary maintains recorded notes/minutes of each meeting, handles all public correspondence of the Association, and manages the Association’s annual meeting. They assist with website and portal updates as needed.
The Gallowear Committee works with the AD to plan for purchases of spirit wear for the Galloway community. They work directly with vendors in obtaining estimates, ordering and taking delivery of goods. They work to coordinate sales throughout the year at events, and to order specialty items as appropriate.
The Concessions Committee is responsible for the purchase of goods and the management of the concession stand in the gym as well as at the Athletics Complex. They are responsible for creating and managing the sign-up spreadsheet for parents to work at the concession stand during various sporting events. They assist in organizing special athletics events related to the concession stand.
Jr. Scots volunteers work to promote the Jr. Scots program for Early Learning and Middle Learning students athletes by assisting with clinics and spirit events. The chair of this committee acts as liaison between Jr. Scots coaches and Galloway’s Athletics Department.
The Spirit Committee works with the athletics department to boost school spirit around games, tournaments and special events. This could include organizing fan buses, decorating banners, the buses or the gym, helping with tailgates, Pack the House events, Senior nights, and pep rallies. At times, the spirit committee works hand-in-hand with the student spirit club or student government.
Parents Association Liaison
Attends all Parents Association meetings as a representative to share information and updates about TB activities and to work on common goals of Great Scots. Usually works with the PA to offer assistance with the Elliott’s Run event.
If a coach needs a team parent he or she will recruit one on their own or ask for volunteers at the mandatory sports meeting each season. Team parents typically assist with service projects, organize snacks and end-of-season get togethers and communicate with parents about concessions, photography, etc. Each coach determines the needs of a team and works with the team parent directly to get needs met.
Jr. Scots Coach
Takes responsibility for coaching a Jr. Scots team usually with an assistant. Organizes practices, attends all games, attends training as needed and encourages players to attend special events for Middle Learning and Upper Learning teams.
Photograph players on teams to be used in the season-end slide show or video. Makes photos available to parents as appropriate.
Team Service Learning Coordinator
Works with coaches and the Galloway Athletics Department in organizing service projects for teams each season.
